Friday Keynote Speaker:
     John Prucich

John Prucich:
The Falconer is owned and operated by John Prucich.  John's professional and personal background is anchored in the field of birds. A dual BS/BA degree in Biology with an emphasis in ornithology from The Evergreen State College. As well as a previous professional background working with zoo birds of prey with Woodland Park Zoo, and Northwest Trek Wildlife Park. Personally, John has been an active licensed falconer since 2010 and is a master falconer with an eagle endorsement in Washington State.  He holds a federal raptor propagation permit as well.  He is an avid birder and his favorite species is the American Dipper. Mr. Prucich started "The Falconer" in 2015 out of his love of falconry, raptors, conservation, and his desire to share that love with the public through education.

Saturday Dinner Speaker:
     Maria Ruth

Maria Ruth:
Maria Ruth grew up in the Washington, D.C. area, where she worked for the National Geographic Society for several years as a researcher on their travel magazine and books before striking out on her own to write non-fiction natural history for both children and adult readers. Her most recent books for the general adult audience are Rare Bird: Pursuing the Mystery of the Marbled Murrelet and award-winning A Sideways Look at Clouds. Maria’s books blend best-available science, natural history, personal stories, and humor to bring the wonder of the natural world to her readers.

Since 2013, Maria has been a volunteer with the Salish Sea Guillemot Network, a community-science project focused on monitoring Pigeon Guillemots during their summer breeding season in Puget Sound and beyond. Her book on the Pigeon Guillemot will be published by Mountaineers Books in Spring 2026. She lives in Olympia, WA.
